Allyson Fanger is best known for her work on the popular Netflix series Grace and Frankie, starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Sam Waterston, Martin Sheen, Brooklyn Decker, and June Diane Raphael. Her costume design on the series has earned her multiple Primetime Emmy nominations as well as several Costume Designer’s Guild nominations.

Allyson’s work on Grace and Frankie has not only won her recognition amongst her peers, but has also had a seminal effect on the culture of style at large. Allyson’s vision for these characters, who just happened to be “of a certain age,” has been lauded in the press as inspirational, empowering and transformational for viewers of all ages. Allyson has been credited with bringing the notion as well as the visual psychology of truly ageless style into mainstream media. Her attention to detail and natural ability to create multilayered, textural characters of every age has drawn a huge following for the style elements and costuming achievements on the series.

Allyson began her career working in fashion editorials and commercials in Minneapolis, MN where she spent her childhood, but it was through scripted television and film that she found her true calling. Designing costumes for narrative film combines her love of story telling and visual art. Allyson’s extensive travels to Southeast Asia and her BA degree in social anthropology and art merge, allowing her to design unique aesthetics for complex characters. Her guiding vision is to find inspiration from life, and real people become her character muses. The magic is in the details, and Allyson has cultivated the lens by which the magic is easily excavated.
